Sundance Film Festival to Feature 87 Films from Over 30 Countries

The 2025 Sundance Film Festival has announced its lineup, showcasing 87 feature films and six episodic selections from over 30 countries, including world premieres for 41% of the films. This year’s festival will highlight emerging talent in the industry with a majority being first-time directors.

The selection process is subjective and relies on the confidence of the filmmaking voice, rather than competition. Senior programmer John Nein emphasizes that filmmakers’ experiences and perspectives play a significant role in the decision-making process.

This year’s lineup includes films that depict life in the western US, such as Max Walker-Silverman’s “Rebuilding,” set in Alamosa, Colorado, exploring themes of recovery from a wildfire. The festival also features notable talent, including Jennifer Lopez and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Films will be available for streaming online starting January 30, with more than half of the feature films being made available at that time. The festival’s goal is to provide a balance of films that tell the story of where artists are today and what they’re exploring.

The 11-day festival will take place in Park City from January 23 to February 2, with additional showings in Salt Lake City until the end of the festival.
