Packers quarterback Jordan Love will undergo a procedure on his left thumb due to an unexpected injury sustained during the team’s preseason opener against the Jets. General manager Brian Gutekunst assured reporters that Love is expected to return to practice next week and won’t miss any regular-season time.
Love injured his thumb when he attempted to escape the pocket and made contact with defensive tackle Jay Tufele’s helmet on a third-down play. The injury affected his non-throwing hand, but Gutekunst expressed confidence that Love will avoid any long-term issues. Coach Matt LaFleur also anticipated a “relatively quick recovery” for Love.
Gutekunst stated that the team will get Love back in plenty of time and doesn’t foresee the injury affecting him significantly. The Packers will continue to monitor Love’s progress, with backup Malik Willis leading the quarterback group until Love returns.
