Ford Invests $5 Billion in Electric Trucks and Advanced Batteries

Ford is investing approximately $5 billion in its Louisville Assembly Plant and BlueOval Battery Park Michigan to create or secure nearly 4,000 jobs. The company aims to deliver a new midsize electric pickup truck with advanced prismatic LFP batteries, reducing parts by 20% and assembly time by 40%.

The Ford Universal EV Platform enables the production of affordable, high-quality electric vehicles at scale, with features like over-the-air updates and instant torque from electric motors. The platform’s design allows for a low center of gravity, improving handling, quiet cabin, and interior space.

Ford President and CEO Jim Farley emphasized the importance of creating affordable vehicles that delight customers in every way, while empowering American workers to drive growth and profitability. The company has transformed its traditional assembly line into an “assembly tree” with large single-piece aluminum unicastings, reducing twisting, reaching, and bending for employees.

The investment is part of Ford’s commitment to U.S. vehicle assembly, with plans to invest nearly $2 billion in Louisville Assembly Plant to assemble the midsize electric truck. The project will secure 2,200 hourly jobs and expand the plant by 52,000 square feet to move materials more efficiently.

Ford’s $5 billion investment is also part of its goal to strengthen the domestic supply chain with dozens of new U.S.-based suppliers. The company expects to create or secure nearly 4,000 direct jobs while building advanced batteries for electric vehicles at BlueOval Battery Park Michigan.
