GE Appliances Invests $3B in US Manufacturing Over 5 Years

GE Appliances has invested over $3 billion in its US manufacturing operations, the second-largest investment in company history, as part of President Trump’s efforts to boost domestic manufacturing. The company plans to modernize 11 US plants and increase production across all product lines.

The first phase of the investment will be rolled out at facilities in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina, with new jobs and production capacity added to each site. GE Appliances aims to expand its air conditioning and water heating portfolio, while also modernizing its supply chain.

CEO Kevin Nolan notes that investing in US manufacturing is crucial for companies to build a more responsive and efficient supply chain. “This starts a virtuous cycle,” he said, as suppliers are likely to follow when more companies manufacture locally.

The investment is part of GE Appliances’ broader “zero distance” strategy, which aims to reduce the gap between its operations and customers. The company has previously announced plans to shift production from China to the US, including moving clothes washer production to Kentucky.

Since 2016, GE Appliances has invested over $6.5 billion in its US manufacturing network, adding more than 4,000 jobs. With this latest investment, the company expects an additional 1,000 new jobs, contributing significantly to US GDP and supporting over 113,000 jobs directly and indirectly.
