Google has announced a new learning feature for its Gemini chatbot, allowing it to recall past conversations and adapt to user preferences more effectively. This updated functionality will enable Gemini to interact with users in more personalized ways without compromising their control over the experience.
The new feature, set to roll out starting this week, will automatically save information about users and learn from their interactions. However, users can turn off this feature or use a “Temporary Chat” option to prevent certain conversations from being saved and shared with Google.
Users can also control whether samples of their uploads are used by Google to improve services, with the option to opt-out entirely. Additionally, Gemini’s memory features raise concerns about personalization changing behavior and output, as well as potential issues with saving private or sensitive information.
The rollout of this new feature is expected to start in select countries with the 2.5 Pro model, expanding to other models in the coming weeks.
