Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts recently gave a young rookie from the Cleveland Browns, Shedeur Sanders, some valuable advice after their joint practice session at the NovaCare Complex. During their conversation, Hurts opened up about his own journey, sharing what he’s learned from being benched during a college football national title game and going from a fifth-round pick to a Super Bowl champion.
Sanders, who was drafted in the fifth round but didn’t participate in most of Wednesday’s practice due to an oblique injury, sought Hurts’ counsel. As someone also surrounded by media attention, Sanders is no stranger to scrutiny. Despite his own struggles, including being out-drafted by Dillon Gabriel, a former Oregon star, Sanders seems determined to carve out his place.
Hurts, who has been in similar situations himself, such as dealing with the Eagles’ flirtations with other quarterbacks during his first full year as a starter, emphasized the importance of patience, hard work, and resilience. He encouraged Sanders to stay committed to his craft and trust his abilities.
“This sense of obligation to be yourself is something I’ve learned throughout my journey,” Hurts said. “It’s not an easy path, but it’s one that requires humility and a willingness to put in the work.”
