A fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X has become the first all-female K-pop artists to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their song “Golden.” The group’s debut single, which features non-fictional singers EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI, took the top spot thanks to strong streaming numbers. This milestone marks a significant moment for K-pop in the US music industry, following eight previous No. 1 hits connected to boy band BTS.
The song’s rise to fame also surpasses Alex Warren’s nine-week reign at No. 1 with his single “Ordinary.” Despite being boosted by blockbuster streaming numbers, HUNTR/X still lags behind “Ordinary” in terms of airplay on commercial radio stations.
Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, is also worth noting. The singer currently holds eight spots on the Billboard 200 albums chart, including her self-titled debut and Fearless. While no major news surrounding Swift has emerged recently, anticipation for new music from the artist could boost chart performance for older albums in the future.
