US Department of Energy Launches Nuclear Reactor Pilot Program

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has officially kicked off President Trump’s Nuclear Reactor Pilot Program, announcing its cooperation with 11 advanced reactor projects to move their technologies toward deployment. The program aims to construct, operate, and achieve criticality at three test reactors by July 4, 2026.

The selected companies include Aalo Atomics Inc., Antares Nuclear Inc., Atomic Alchemy Inc., Deep Fission Inc., Last Energy Inc., Oklo Inc., Natura Resources LLC, Radiant Industries Inc., Terrestrial Energy Inc., and Valar Atomics Inc. These companies will be responsible for all costs associated with their test reactors.

The program is part of President Trump’s efforts to re-establish the US as a global leader in nuclear energy and secure a reliable, diversified, and affordable energy supply. The DOE authorization process under the Atomic Energy Act will help these companies unlock private funding and accelerate commercial licensing activities.

DOE Deputy Secretary James P. Danly said, “This program is a call to action, aiming for all companies to safely achieve criticality by Independence Day.”
