The Minnesota Twins are no longer for sale, according to executive chair Joe Pohlad’s announcement on Wednesday. After exploring various options over the past 10 months, the Pohlad family will remain the principal owner of the club and bring in new investors instead. This decision was made after considering what’s best for the long-term future of the franchise.
The Twins have struggled with declining attendance and a dissatisfied customer base, partly due to an ownership-mandated payroll reduction last year. The team traded 10 players off their roster before the July 31 deadline, furthering fan frustration. Pohlad emphasized that the family’s commitment to building a winning team and culture will remain unchanged.
Manager Rocco Baldelli expressed his happiness with the decision, citing the Pohlads’ treatment of employees and their role in the team’s successes. The Pohlads have purchased the Twins since 1984 for $44 million and look forward to helping rebuild the brand. They are now adding new investors to bring fresh ideas and bolster partnerships, but details will remain private until MLB approval is secured.
