Pfizer Vaccine Could Be Pulled from Market for Young Children

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering revoking Emergency Use Authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children under five years old. This move would remove the only available coronavirus vaccine for young children from the market. Pfizer has expressed confidence in the safety and effectiveness of its vaccine, which continues to demonstrate a favorable profile. The decision is part of ongoing discussions with the FDA and does not relate to public concerns about vaccines. Children between 6 months and 4 years old who are immunocompromised may still receive the Moderna shot, according to the CDC’s child immunization schedule.
