US stocks traded higher on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones index rising 400 points. The Dow Jones closed at 44,880.83, up 0.95%, while the NASDAQ rose 0.33% to 21,753.30. The S&P 500 also gained 0.41% to 6,471.91.
Healthcare shares jumped 1.1% on Wednesday, led by Brinker International (EAT), which reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings and raised FY2026 guidance above estimates. Earnings per share rose to $2.49, beating analyst expectations of $2.45. Quarterly sales increased 21% year-over-year.
Other stocks making news include Bolt Projects Holdings (BSLK), which saw its shares surge 84% to $4.02 after reporting a year-over-year increase in second-quarter financial results. Momentus Inc. (MNTS) also gained, rising 46% to $1.63 after being awarded a NASA contract.
However, not all stocks performed well. Cre8 Enterprise Limited (CRE) dropped 77%, while Color Star Technology Co., Ltd. (ADD) fell 73%. ProFrac Holding Corp. (ACDC) also fell, losing 39%.
In commodity news, oil traded down 0.5% to $62.84, while gold rose 0.5% to $3,417.10. Silver increased 1.5%, and copper fell 0.1%. European shares also rose, with the eurozone’s STOXX 600 gaining 0.6%.
Asian markets closed higher, led by Japan’s Nikkei 225, which gained 1.30%. The volume of mortgage applications jumped 10.9% from the previous week during the first week of August.
