Lions Leap 3 Spots in NFL Valuations Rankings

The Detroit Lions have made a significant jump in NFL team valuations, rising three spots to 25th among all teams with a valuation of $5.88 billion. According to Sportico, this represents an 19% increase from last year’s ranking and the largest upward movement of any team. Despite this progress, the Lions still trail the top-ranked Dallas Cowboys by nearly half in terms of valuation.

Compared to their NFC North rivals, the Lions’ valuation is significantly lower. The Chicago Bears are ranked 11th at $7.45 billion, while the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings follow with valuations of $6.48 billion and $6.28 billion, respectively. Only eight NFL teams have a valuation below $6 billion.

The Lions’ recent success could be contributing to their increased valuation. The team won 15 games in the 2024 regular season, setting a franchise record. However, they were eliminated from Super Bowl hopes with a loss to the Washington Commanders in the playoffs.

Owned by the Ford family since its inception, the Lions are led by Sheila Ford Hamp, who took over as principal owner and chair in 2020. Her father, William Clay “Bill” Ford Sr., has been instrumental in the team’s success, serving as president from 1961 to 2020. With a net worth of $2 billion, Hamp is one of the most wealthy team owners in the NFL.
