US Government Launches Secure AI Platform for Employees

The US General Services Administration (GSA) announced plans to launch a secure platform called USAi, which will allow federal employees to experiment with popular artificial intelligence models from top companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta. The initiative is part of the Trump administration’s broader AI Action Plan aimed at giving the American people a “competitive advantage” in the use of this technology.

The platform is designed to let employees work responsibly with AI tools, making day-to-day workflows more efficient. To address security concerns, USAi will be built on cloud infrastructure managed by the GSA, ensuring that agency data does not feed back into train the companies’ models.

This move comes as the government faces pressure from emerging technology that could displace federal workers whose jobs are already under threat. The administration has added several popular AI models to its Multiple Award Schedule, which establishes a pre-negotiated price baseline for the technology and acts as a seal of approval for federal buyers.

OpenAI and Anthropic have announced they will sell their AI models to the government at a discounted rate for the next year, giving the two companies a first-mover advantage that could entrench their models within the government. However, critics worry this could stifle competition and favor larger companies over smaller ones.
