Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has expressed regret over turning down the lead role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 film Boogie Nights. In an interview with Anderson for Esquire, DiCaprio said that he can’t imagine anyone but Mark Wahlberg playing the iconic character of Dirk Diggler. The film tells the story of a young man who becomes a pornographic film star and explores themes of identity and redemption.
DiCaprio was forced to pass on starring in Boogie Nights due to his commitment to Titanic, which he had already signed for. Now, with their first official collaboration, One Battle After Another, DiCaprio has finally found the chance to work with Anderson. The actor explained that he’s been wanting to join forces with Anderson for nearly two decades and was drawn to the film’s unique concept.
One Battle After Another follows a group of ex-revolutionaries who reunite to assist their member, Bob Ferguson (played by DiCaprio), in finding his daughter. The film is set to release on September 26 and marks an opportunity for DiCaprio to finally work with Anderson.
