Activision has unveiled its latest marketing tactic for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7” ahead of its release, which promises to be one of the most impactful campaigns yet. The company created a fake robotics company called The Guild, complete with real-world advertisements and a corporate website.
The ruse began on Monday with posters in San Francisco featuring a QR code that led to The Guild’s site. Real-life ads followed in prominent publications like Wired and Forbes, culminating in a trailer for the game on Friday, which showcased The Guild as a global tech force fighting to safeguard humanity.
The marketing stunt is a teaser for the upcoming game, set in 2035 and starring Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker. Activision plans to reveal more about “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7” on August 19 at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, including its official release date for the fall.
