Transgender Athlete Sues Swarthmore College Over Discrimination Claim

Evelyn Parts, a former Swarthmore track and field athlete, has filed a lawsuit against Swarthmore College, several athletic department officials, and the NCAA, alleging discrimination due to her transgender status. The lawsuit claims that the defendants violated her Title IX rights and inflicted emotional distress.

Parts, who transitioned in high school, competed for Swarthmore from 2020 to 2024 but was forced to choose between competing in men’s events or unattached due to the NCAA’s policy change. She eventually rejoined the women’s team after being reinstated as a member.

The lawsuit also claims that the NCAA’s ban on transgender athletes in women’s sports is discriminatory and contradicts federal law. Parts’ attorney, Susan Cirilli, stated that the NCAA issued a “bigoted policy” that Swarthmore chose to follow despite federal and state laws.

Another transgender athlete recently sued Princeton University over alleged unfair treatment after being removed from a race due to her gender identity. This case highlights ongoing debates about LGBTQ+ rights in sports.
