Iowa City, IA – A high-intensity women’s basketball rivalry played out in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, with Iowa emerging victorious over Iowa State 75-69. The seesawing battle was marked by missed shots, free throws, and clunky offense, but ultimately, the Hawkeyes’ resilience won out.
Trailing by double digits late in the third quarter, Iowa made a stunning comeback, outscoring Iowa State 9-0 to take the lead. Lucy Olsen led the charge with a clutch 3-pointer with 42 seconds remaining, handing Iowa a 71-63 advantage. Despite Audi Crooks’ monster night with 31 points, Iowa’s defense saved its best for last, holding her to just two points in the fourth quarter.
The Hawkeyes were led by Olsen’s 25 points, as well as Sydney Affolter and Hannah Stuelke each contributing double-digit assists. While Iowa struggled from beyond the arc, going just 8-for-25, they showed clutch accuracy at the line, converting 15-of-25 free throws to seal the win.
