iOS Update Adds Layered Voice Memo Recordings to iPhone Pro Models

Apple has introduced a new feature in its latest iOS 18.2 update, allowing users of iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models to record layered voice memo recordings with ease. This feature is designed to benefit musicians, who can now layer vocals on top of instrumental tracks without needing headphones.

According to Apple’s collaboration with Canadian singer-songwriter Michael Bublé, country star Carly Pearce, and record producer Greg Wells, the new update uses advanced processing and machine learning algorithms to isolate vocal recordings. Users can apply additional mixing and production in apps like Logic Pro, using the ability to create two individual tracks.

The feature is powered by the A18 Pro chip and allows users to layer a vocal track on top of an existing instrumental recording while playing instrumental compositions through the iPhone’s speaker. Background instrumentals like acoustic guitar or piano can be used as the first layer for a recording.

Michael Bublé praised Apple’s innovative approach, saying “it’s so typically Apple to build something we didn’t know we needed — and now won’t be able to live without.” The feature is now available on iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models with iOS 18.2 installed.
