USA Network Revives Scripted TV with John Grisham’s ‘The Rainmaker’

USA Network has announced its return to scripted television programming after a three-year hiatus. The network’s first foray back into original content will be the legal thriller “The Rainmaker,” based on the 1995 novel by John Grisham.

Rudy Baylor, played by British actor Milo Callaghan, is a young lawyer fresh out of law school who lands a job at a small ambulance-chasing firm. When he’s fired from his first high-profile case, he takes on a new challenge that pits him against the big law firms and his own personal demons.

Callaghan has said that watching the 1997 film adaptation starring Matt Damon was an inspiration for his portrayal of Baylor. He also drew upon John Grisham’s novel to create a character-driven story with complex dialogue and nuanced themes. To perfect his Southern accent, Callaghan worked closely with a dialect coach and studied American law through notable trials like the O.J. Simpson and Gwyneth Paltrow cases.

With 10 hours of television ahead, “The Rainmaker” promises to be a gripping and engaging ride that explores the grittier side of the legal world. After a three-year absence from scripted TV, USA Network is back with a bang – and this revival is set to delight fans of courtroom dramas and complex storytelling.
