4 Al Jazeera Journalists Killed by Israel in Gaza

Four journalists from Al Jazeera were killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza City on Sunday, including 28-year-old correspondent Anas al-Sharif. The attack has drawn strong international condemnation and raised questions about the legitimacy of Israel’s claims that Sharif was a member of Hamas.

Al Jazeera initially reported five journalists were killed, but later revised the number to four. The targeted attack on a tent used by journalists has sparked criticism from the UN, Qatar, and media freedom groups. Israel claims Sharif led “terrorist cell,” but lacks concrete evidence to support this claim.

Sharif had previously denied the allegations and Al Jazeera and media rights groups have rejected them. His colleagues described him as courageous, dedicated, and honest, with hundreds of thousands of social media followers worldwide.

The Israeli military has released some screenshots that appear to list Hamas operatives from the northern Gaza Strip, but its claims are being questioned by media freedom groups.

This attack brings the total number of journalists killed in the war to nearly 200, according to Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
