Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has shared a poignant tribute to his late mother Jackie, who passed away peacefully in her Miami-area home at the age of 78, battling Lewy body dementia since 2020.
Bezos’ mother, born in Washington D.C., moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico with her family, where she became pregnant with Jeff. She raised him as a single mom before meeting his father Miguel Bezos, whom she married in 1968. The couple adopted their young son and had two more children, Christina and Mark.
The Amazon founder remembered his mother’s unwavering love and dedication to her family, saying “She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish.” Bezos’ mother’s legacy continues to inspire his philanthropic efforts, including the establishment of the Bezos Scholars Program.
The couple, who have remained close over the years, had recently purchased a luxury home in Coral Gables for approximately $34 million. Bezos has relocated back to Miami, where he was partially raised, and has been seen with his wife Lauren Sanchez attending high-profile events.
The late Jackie is survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, leaving behind a lasting impact on her family and friends.
