SpaceX has launched a lawsuit against the state of Virginia, alleging it is unfairly excluding its Starlink internet service from receiving funding under a federal broadband program. The dispute centers on $613 million in subsidies intended to bring high-speed internet access to underserved areas of the state. SpaceX claims it can offer internet services at nearly one-tenth the cost of current providers and aims to connect virtually all targeted households.
As part of its Starlink project, SpaceX had applied for funding under the federal program, seeking $61 million. However, the company states that Virginia’s decision to exclude it has resulted in a significant loss of potential revenue.
