The New York Giants are set to face off against the Jets in their second preseason game this Saturday at MetLife Stadium. With several key positions still up for grabs, fans will be eager to see how the players perform.
The wide receiver position is one of the most competitive spots on the team, with only two spots open if Jalin Hyatt is not considered a safe bet. Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Zach Pascal are vying for those spots, but younger prospects like Montrell Washington, Beaux Collins, and returner Gunner Olszewski could also make an impact.
On special teams, the Giants’ performances will be crucial in determining who will secure the final spot. A strong showing from these players could be the difference-maker in securing their place on the team.
In the cornerback battle, Deonte Banks is still nursing a preseason opener injury and may not be ready for action this weekend. His duel with Cor’Dale Flott for a starting cornerback spot remains unresolved.
Tackle Evan Neal, who was banged up at the start of training camp, returned to practice last week after missing the first game and joint session with the Jets. While he showed promise on film, real game action is still needed to gauge his transition to guard. With veteran Greg Van Roten entrenched in the starting spot at right guard, Neal’s chances of snatching it away are slim – for now.
As the season wears on, however, Neal’s size and strength make him an attractive option for the Giants’ coaching staff.
