Louisiana Sues Roblox Over Alleged Child Safety Concerns

Louisiana’s Attorney General, Liz Murrill, has filed a lawsuit against online gaming platform Roblox, alleging that it fails to adequately protect children from adult predators on its site. The suit claims that Roblox’s lack of safety measures puts thousands of Louisiana kids at risk.

The lawsuit follows similar allegations made in Iowa last month, after a 13-year-old girl was kidnapped and trafficked after meeting an adult predator on the platform. In Louisiana, law enforcement officials have reported multiple cases involving Roblox, including one where a man used voice-altering technology to pose as a girl.

Roblox says it has a zero-tolerance policy for exploiting minors, but Murrill argues that its safety protocols are inadequate. The company’s website claims that users under 13 cannot chat with other users outside of games without parental permission, but Murrill says there is no robust age verification process in place once users sign up.

Roblox has implemented some additional measures to address child safety concerns, including an artificial intelligence system to detect potential child exploitation. However, the company’s response has been criticized as insufficient, and it remains unclear whether these measures will be effective in preventing harm to children on its platform.
