Ultraprocessed foods are ubiquitous, but recognizing them can be confusing due to their widespread presence in our diets. These foods often contain artificial ingredients such as flavors, dyes, and emulsifiers that are not typically found in home kitchens.
A staggering 58% of the American diet consists of ultraprocessed foods, which have been linked to various health conditions, including heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and mental health issues like anxiety and depression.
To help you understand more about these foods, we’re launching a weeklong challenge that will provide evidence-based tips on identifying them and making small changes for better health.
Our expert guides, Jancee Dunn and Alice Callahan, will lead the way through taste tests, recipes, grocery store visits, and other fun experiments.
To get started, sign up for our Well newsletter to receive daily emails from January 6-10 with daily challenges and insights.
By the end of the week, you’ll gain a better understanding of ultraprocessed foods in your diet and develop new habits for a healthier year ahead.
