Meta’s first smart glasses with a dedicated display are set to be released next month at a lower-than-expected price of $800, according to reports from industry insider Mark Gurman. The internal codename “Hypernova” is for the new augmented reality-focused product, which will feature a small screen in the right-hand lens that can control mini apps and alerts with a wrist accessory.
The smart glasses are a precursor to Meta’s full-fledged AR glasses ambitions and mark a significant shift from its previous $200-$400 Ray-Ban displays without screens. The lower price point is seen as a strategic move by Meta to boost demand for the product, potentially reducing margins to achieve this goal. With customization options like prescription lenses and styling upgrades, the actual price may exceed $1,000.
