Microsoft has released several security updates for August 2025, including Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11. The updates are necessary to improve security and performance, particularly in the case of outdated anti-malware definitions.
The latest Defender update (version 1.431.796.0) addresses a temporary security risk caused by old Microsoft Defender protection in OS installation images. This issue is resolved by updating the anti-malware client, engine, and signature versions to newer versions.
This update also includes threat detections for various types of malware, including stealer malware that affected nearly 400,000 systems worldwide. The latest intelligence update version 1.431.796.0 adds these new threat detections, which were not fully addressed in an earlier release.
The updates apply to Windows 11, Windows 10 (Enterprise, Pro, and Home editions), Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016. Users can find more information about the latest intelligence update on Microsoft’s official website.
