Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the head of the US Department of Health and Human Services, has made significant changes to the agency’s vaccine policies. He has fired vaccine experts, rolled back key immunization recommendations, and cut funding for promising mRNA vaccine technology.
Kennedy claims to be committed to “gold standard” science, but recent analyses have raised concerns about the accuracy of his reports. A non-profit organization found errors in citations used to support Kennedy’s report, including broken links and misstated conclusions. Another review suggested that Kennedy’s evidence does not support ending the research on mRNA vaccines, but rather suggests expanding it.
However, doctors and scientists are pushing back against these changes. University of Minnesota infectious disease expert Mike Osterholm is leading a volunteer team, known as the Vaccine Integrity Project (VIP), to provide credible data and counter vaccine doubts. VIP launched in April and will make its YouTube debut with a scientific session on COVID, RSV, and influenza immunizations.
The session, open to the public, will feature prominent experts like Osterholm, Dr. Eric Rubin from the New England Journal of Medicine, and Dr. Marc Siegel, a clinical professor at New York University’s Langone Medical Center.
