Scientists Overcome Immune Response Limitation for Viral Cancer Therapy

Researchers have made a breakthrough in using viruses to treat cancer, overcoming the limitation that the immune system rejects viruses injected near tumors. By shielding the virus with genetically engineered bacteria, scientists were able to successfully slow the growth of severe tumors in mice. This advancement builds upon existing oncolytic virus therapies, which involve injecting genetically modified viruses directly into tumors.
