Joe Flacco Named Cleveland Browns’ Starting Quarterback

Cleveland’s quarterback competition is over, and Joe Flacco will lead the team to face the Bengals in Week 1. The 40-year-old quarterback has been named the starter after impressing head coach Kevin Stefanski throughout training camp.

Flacco made his first Week 1 start since 2022 with the Jets in 2019. He led the Browns to a 4-1 record as a starter late in the 2023 season, helping the team reach the postseason. In his previous stint with the Colts in 2024, Flacco completed 65.3% of his passes for 1,761 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Flacco’s experience under Stefanski made him the likely winner of the competition. He has been the only healthy quarterback on the team, as Kenny Pickett struggled with a hamstring injury, Dillon Gabriel dealt with a hamstring injury, and Shedeur Sanders is currently dealing with an oblique injury.

The veteran quarterback has a proven track record, compiling a 105-86 record as a starter in his 17-season career.
