Applied Digital Corporation has broken ground on its Polaris Forge 2 campus in Harwood, North Dakota, a $3 billion project that will bring high-performance AI infrastructure to the region. The 280-megawatt facility is designed to scale beyond its initial capacity and is expected to employ over 200 full-time employees.
The new campus is part of Applied Digital’s rapid expansion in North Dakota, which is positioning the state as a national leader in AI infrastructure. The company has already established a presence in Ellendale with its Polaris Forge 1 campus and has secured interest from multiple parties for the Harwood location.
Governor Kelly Armstrong praised the project, saying that it will bring economic benefits to the region while creating jobs and stimulating growth. Cass County Electric Cooperative and Minnkota Power Cooperative have also expressed their support for the project, highlighting the importance of reliable power and electricity in the development of AI infrastructure.
The Polaris Forge 2 campus is expected to advance Applied Digital’s mission to build sustainable digital infrastructure that powers innovation and delivers lasting economic benefits. The company will deliver secure, scalable compute at industry-leading speed and efficiency while creating opportunities for rural communities through its award-winning AI Factory model.
With abundant power resources, available land, and a growing base of technical talent, North Dakota is rapidly becoming a preferred destination for AI infrastructure. Applied Digital’s investment in the region will strengthen the state’s position as a leader in AI technology and create lasting value for both the company and the communities it serves.
