Q Lazzarus Album and Documentary Set for 2025 Release

Q Lazzarus, a mysterious musician who rose to fame in 1991 with her song “Goodbye Horses” from Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs, will see her legacy cemented with an album and documentary release next year.

Diane Luckey, aka Q Lazzarus, was discovered by Demme in the mid-1980s after she played him a demo tape. He featured her music in several films, including Something Wild and Philadelphia. After the band’s disbandment, Luckey retreated from the public eye, sparking a widespread search in 2017.

A retrospective documentary about her life and music was completed by filmmaker Eva Aridjis before Luckey’s death in 2022. The film, Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus, will be released on streaming services in early 2025, along with an album featuring unreleased songs from the 1980s to 1990s.

The album and documentary were already previewed at screenings in New York City and Los Angeles. A 21-song compilation has also been announced, including a “New Wave” version of “Goodbye Horses” and a cover of Talking Heads’ “Heaven.” Pre-orders for the music release are now live ahead of its February 2025 release date.
