Poland’s Iga Świątek secured her second U.S. Open tuneup with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Jasmine Paolini at the Cincinnati Open, reclaiming her No. 2 ranking and closing in on world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. The win marked Świątek’s first title on hard courts since March 2024 and solidified her position as a top contender for the US Open.
Świątek overcame Paolini’s initial 3-0 lead to regain control of the match, using her speed and agility to outmaneuver her opponent. The Polish player then cracked two strong serves to seal the set, before Paolini pushed her hard but ultimately succumbed to Świątek’s relentless play.
The Cincinnati Open victory marked Świątek’s 24th title and 11th WTA 1000 win, bringing her total to six such titles. With this win, Świątek is now within reach of the US Open title, having previously won in 2022 during a dominant period of her career. She will look to build on her momentum with a mixed doubles appearance at the US Open alongside Casper Ruud next week.
