Norway’s Crown Princess Son Charged with Rape and Abuse

Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been charged with 32 crimes, including four counts of rape. The charges against 28-year-old Marius, born before his mother married Prince Haakon, include abuse of a former partner and violating restraining orders.

Marius denies the most serious allegations but plans to plead guilty to lesser charges. He could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty. The alleged rapes occurred between 2018 and 2024, with one taking place after his arrest.

The case has been ongoing since Marius’s August arrest on suspicion of assault, which led to the investigation into three rapes and 23 other crimes. A trial is expected to start in January and last six weeks.

Crown Prince Haakon has stated that the court will decide the outcome, saying everyone involved finds it challenging and difficult. The allegations have sparked a significant response, with help and support available for victims of sexual abuse or violence at bbc.co.uk/actionline or 0800 077 077.
