Joe Flacco Named Cleveland Browns’ Starting QB at 40

Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco has been named the starting QB for the upcoming season, becoming one of only four players in NFL history to start a game after turning 40. Flacco joins an exclusive club that includes Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Brett Favre.

Flacco will lead the team into its first game against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7, marking his first opening-week start since 2022 as a member of the New York Jets. The quarterback expressed confidence in his abilities, stating he feels “good as ever” and is ready to go. Flacco’s impressive training camp performance earned him the starting role, according to Browns coach Kevin Stefanski.

Stefanski praised Flacco’s work ethic and skills, saying he has “earned that role.” The quarterback competition was impacted by injuries to other players, including Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. However, Flacco emerged as the winner of the competition and will now lead the team into its 18th season under Stefanski’s leadership.

The Browns’ coaching staff has not yet announced a backup quarterback for Flacco, but general manager Andrew Berry hinted that keeping all four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster could be an option. Regardless, Flacco is ready to take on the challenge and lead the team into its new season.
