Giants’ Jaxson Dart Impresses in Preseason Debut

Jaxson Dart impressed with his second preseason performance for the New York Giants, going 14-of-16 passing for 137 yards with a touchdown and another score rushing. Coach Brian Daboll praised Dart’s execution, saying he “executed well” and completed his final 13 passes.

Dart, the 25th pick in this year’s draft, was inserted into the game for one random play in the middle of a second-quarter drive in place of starter Russell Wilson. He threw a screen pass for 30 yards to tight end Theo Johnson before returning to the sideline.

Daboll revealed that he made the call without telling his coaches, as part of Dart’s quarterback development plan. The rookie has incrementally improved throughout the summer and now has a combined 26-of-35 passing performance with two touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills and Jets.

Despite his success, Dart remains the team’s No. 2 quarterback behind Wilson. Daboll reiterated that Wilson is the starter and will continue to develop Dart as the No. 2 option. The Giants have been adamant about Wilson’s starting role since his signing in March.

Wilson also had a solid preseason performance, finishing 4-of-7 passing for 108 yards with one touchdown. He led one scoring drive on four possessions and finished the game with an interception. Daboll described Wilson’s performance as “good” and executed well.

While Dart outperformed Wilson in some aspects, Daboll noted that it was not perfect and there is still room to improve. The rookie quarterback acknowledged a mistake on his first drive when he was tackled by a defensive lineman, but Daboll emphasized that Dart is growing every day and making strides with each game.
