Labor disputes are escalating across the United States and Europe. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has filed unfair labor practice charges against Costco, alleging that the wholesale giant is disrupting collective bargaining. The Union represents over 18,000 Costco workers nationwide.
Meanwhile, a sanitation contractor was fined $171,919 for employing children to perform hazardous work at a pork processing plant in Iowa. The U.S. District Court approved the fine as part of a consent order and judgment.
In Germany, Volkswagen workers are staging four-hour strikes at nine factories, seeking better wages and benefits. The strikes come after management rejected a Union proposal to lower dividend payouts and cut bonuses. VW’s plans to close some German factories could impact 120,000 workers, exacerbating the country’s economic challenges.
