Aaron Judge Injury Update: Uncertain Return to Play for Yankees Star

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided the latest update on Aaron Judge’s flexor strain in his right arm, which has been sidelining him since July 22. Judge is following a structured throwing routine similar to pitchers when rehabbing before returning to the mound. He currently throws from 150 feet and has moved from catch-and-throw sessions to this new phase.

Boone expressed concerns about Judge’s ability to play in the outfield, stating that he may need to “play with a governor on it” due to the injury. However, Boone later clarified his comments, saying they might have been overstated. Judge downplayed any concerns, insisting he will return safely and confidently once he gets back into throwing.

Judge initially hurt his arm earlier in a game in Toronto before grimacing after a throw from right field. Imaging revealed no acute injury to his ulnar collateral ligament upon being placed on the injured list. Since returning as a DH, Judge’s production has been inconsistent, with an .855 OPS in 11 games but a notable drop in contact quality metrics.

The Yankees are still waiting for Judge’s arm to heal fully before he can return to the outfield. Meanwhile, Giancarlo Stanton will take his place in right field against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. This move comes as a surprise, given that Stanton has not played right field since 2023.
