Norway Crown Princess’s Son Charged with Rape and Domestic Violence

Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Hoiby, has been charged with 32 criminal offenses, including rape and domestic violence, following a yearlong police investigation. The 28-year-old is expected to stand trial in early January and could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.

Hoiby denies the most serious accusations but plans to plead guilty to lesser charges during the trial. He has been named as a suspect in physical assault against one woman, Nora Haukland, with whom he had a relationship. The prosecution alleges that Hoiby repeatedly hit her in the face, choked and kicked her.

The police investigation was launched after concerns about Hoiby’s associations with gang members and “notorious criminals.” He has been linked to the Hells Angels bikers and Oslo’s Albanian mafia. In 2017, Hoiby was arrested for using cocaine at a music festival.

The trial is expected to take around six weeks, and it is up to the courts to reach a decision on the case. The royal palace has stated that the prince will be treated equally to anyone else in similar circumstances.
