Trump Slaps New Tariffs on 407 US Goods, Including Wind Turbines and Railcars

The US Commerce Department announced Tuesday that it will impose new tariffs on 407 products, including wind turbines, mobile cranes, bulldozers, and railcars, effective immediately. The tariffs are part of a broader effort to support the American steel and aluminum industries.

Steel and aluminum tariffs will apply to these products, with a 50% tariff on any steel or aluminum content. The move also covers imported parts for automotive exhaust systems and electrical steel needed for electric vehicles.

A group of foreign automakers had urged the department not to add the parts, citing concerns over US domestic capacity. However, the administration has moved forward with the tariffs, which are part of a pattern of trade policies implemented by President Trump since his return to office.

The new tariffs come as some businesses have already raised prices due to previous tariff increases. Home Depot and Procter & Gamble announced price hikes in recent weeks, citing increased costs due to tariffs.

Under Secretary of Commerce Jeffrey Kessler stated that the move will “expand the reach of the steel and aluminum tariffs and shut down avenues for circumvention,” supporting the revitalization of American steel and aluminum industries.
