Microsoft has announced a new initiative to ensure the performance of games on its upcoming Xbox Ally handhelds. The Handheld Compatibility Program will test thousands of titles for compatibility, providing users with optimized gaming experiences.
The program will be available on release day and allows players to see which games are “Handheld Optimized”, indicating that they work seamlessly with default controller inputs, proper resolution for full-screen play, and more. Games marked as “Mostly Compatible” may require minor adjustments, but the Xbox Ally handhelds promise an optimized experience.
Microsoft will partner with developers to test their titles for handheld compatibility testing, providing a new level of assurance for gamers. The company also introduces a Windows Performance Fit indicator, which predicts how well a game will run on the device using telemetry-based performance data. Games are categorized as either “Should play great” (average 60FPS or better) or “Should play well” (average 30FPS or better), ensuring users know what to expect.
The Xbox Ally handhelds are set to launch on October 16, with the Handheld Compatibility Program available from release day.
