Texas Measles Outbreak in West Texas Ends After 42 Days

A health official statement confirms that the West Texas measles outbreak has come to an end after 42 days with no new cases reported. The outbreak, which began in January and peaked at 762 cases, was a concern for public health officials due to its rapid spread.

The two children who died as a result of the outbreak were unvaccinated, and 99 others were hospitalized. Despite the outbreak’s conclusion, state health officials emphasize that the threat of measles remains real, with ongoing outbreaks across the country and globally.

Healthcare providers are urged to remain vigilant and test for measles in patients showing symptoms compatible with the virus. Monitoring for new cases continues, but for now, the West Texas measles outbreak is over.
