SEC Reopens Probe into Neuralink Amid Musk Settlement Demands

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has reopened an investigation into Elon Musk’s brain-chip startup Neuralink, according to a letter shared by Musk on social media platform X. The agency had issued Musk a 48-hour settlement deadline to accept a monetary payment or face charges over the probe into his $44 billion Twitter takeover.

The SEC previously investigated Musk’s alleged misleading statements about the safety of a brain implant developed by Neuralink in 2022. A federal judge rejected the commission’s request to sanction Musk after he failed to appear for court-ordered testimony related to the Twitter takeover probe.

In November, Musk won the presidential election with the help of more than $250 million spent by his companies on campaign efforts. This has raised concerns about his influence and potential regulatory insulation. The SEC did not respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.
