Meta Freezes AI Hiring Amid Restructuring Efforts

Meta has temporarily halted hiring for its artificial intelligence division following recent organizational restructuring. The move comes after weeks of recruitment efforts, which have targeted over 50 AI researchers and engineers from rival companies. The hiring freeze took effect last week and its duration is currently unknown.

The reorganization, which began earlier this week, saw the AI unit split into four separate groups: TBD Labs led by former Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang, and three other teams focused on research, product development, and infrastructure.

Meta has confirmed the hiring freeze to The Wall Street Journal, attributing it to “basic organizational planning” following an evaluation of its existing staff. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s push for dominance in the AI field has sparked intense competition, prompting top talent to be wooed with lucrative compensation packages worth nine figures.
