Micah Parsons Expected to Play in Season Opener Despite Contract Holdout

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed optimism about star pass rusher Micah Parsons playing in the team’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4, despite concerns over a contract holdout. Parsons has been dealing with back soreness and was recently upset that negotiations have never transpired. However, Schottenheimer believes Parsons will be ready for the game.

Parsons is entering his final season under his rookie contract, which includes a $24 million base salary in 2025. He had requested a trade on August 1 but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones downplayed the move as a negotiation tactic. Jones later expressed doubt about Parsons playing in the season opener.

Despite this uncertainty, Schottenheimer remains confident that Parsons will be on the field. The coach cited Parsons’ dedication to his body and participation in walkthroughs and meetings as reasons for optimism. Schottenheimer also referenced the Cowboys’ history of contract drama, where players have come to agreements before the start of the season.

However, with no contact between Parsons’ agent and Jones, the outlook dims slightly. Nevertheless, Schottenheimer’s positive view suggests that Parsons may be suited up and ready for the season opener against Philadelphia.
