Renowned author Louis Sachar, best known for his beloved novels “Holes” and “Wayside School”, has been writing books for kids for nearly 50 years. His new novel, “The Magician of Tiger Castle”, marks a significant return to form after a brief hiatus.
Set in 16th-century Esquaveta, the story follows young Princess Tullia as she navigates her arranged marriage and forbidden love for Pito, while being aided by her confidant Anatole – a quirky middle-aged potions expert. Sachar’s latest tale is filled with humor, excitement, and unexpected mishaps, courtesy of Anatole’s unpredictable brews.
In an interview, Sachar revealed that his philosophy has shifted from solely focusing on fun stories to recognizing the importance of writing serious children’s books as well. He expressed gratitude for hearing from adults who credit him with helping them develop a love for reading, as well as teachers who incorporate his work into their classrooms.
Sachar dedicated “The Magician of Tiger Castle” to his high school friends, now known as “The Cool Breezers”, whom he had lost touch with but reconnected in recent years. This nostalgic touch is reflected in the book’s themes of friendship and connection, making it a relatable read for a generation.
With “The Magician of Tiger Castle”, Sachar proves once again why he remains one of the most beloved authors among children and adults alike.
