Europe Tensions Rise Over Iran Nuclear Program Concessions

European foreign ministers held a tense call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday, amid rising tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. The meeting reportedly yielded no concessions from Iran, and Araghchi expressed skepticism about US involvement in negotiations.

Araghchi revealed that the US is not interested in talks with Iran, while also stating that 60% enriched uranium is buried under rubble and inaccessible at present. This revelation comes as European powers approach a deadline to activate significant sanctions on Iran unless concessions are made.

Leaders from Britain, France, and Germany announced plans to meet Iranian officials next week to discuss potential concessions. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed the talks, stating that diplomacy remains a priority but time is running out for Iran to engage substantively. The EU is pushing for a democratic solution, emphasizing the importance of Iran’s readiness to engage with the US.
