Google is set to upgrade its location tracking feature on Android devices with satellite support, allowing it to work even without Wi-Fi or a mobile network. The new feature, dubbed Find Hub via satellite, will help users stay located and send their position to others in remote areas.
When enabled from the settings, the feature will ping the device’s location every 15 minutes. It will also work in the background to maintain user privacy. However, satellite-based services are not cheap, leading many to wonder if Google will make it a paid feature or limit its support to premium devices.
The upgrade is expected to roll out soon and may be available with the upcoming Pixel 10 series launch. While the event’s details are still unclear, tests being done on the Find Hub app suggest that public availability might not be far away. This new capability will make Google’s location tracking feature even more useful for users, especially in areas with no mobile network coverage.
