James Gunn has addressed fan concerns regarding the handling of the Justice League cameo in the premiere episode of Peacemaker: Season 2. The filmmaker had initially introduced the iconic team, including Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Superman, but later confirmed that this version would not be part of the DCU canon.
Instead, a new “Previously in the DCU” sequence was added to recap key moments from Season 1, featuring an alternate Justice League lineup known as the Justice Gang. This change has sparked debate among fans about whether the retcon is acceptable or confusing.
Gunn explained that his goal was to simplify the story and avoid convoluted explanations for canon inconsistencies. He stated, “Normies don’t give a shit” about these details, and instead, he opted for a straightforward approach to resolve the issue.
The Justice Gang will still appear in Season 2, but their role is being redefined as they become the costumed team protecting this reality. A major DCU cameo can be expected in later episodes of the season.
Gunn’s decision has been met with mixed reactions from fans, who are weighing in on social media to discuss their thoughts on the retcon.
