Malik Beasley Cleared as FBI Gambling Investigation Targets Another Player

Former Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley’s lawyer, Steve Haney, has announced that his client is no longer a target of an FBI investigation focused on wire fraud, gambling, and prop bets. The development comes seven weeks after The Detroit News reported Beasley was under investigation.

According to Haney, the federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York have declared their decision, which clears Beasley’s name. However, it is unclear whether he will be charged with a crime or punished by the NBA officials following an internal investigation.

Beasley’s lawyer emphasized that the allegations predated his career with the Pistons and that the basketball star was not involved in any wrongdoing. Haney also downplayed claims of Beasley being broke, stating that many athletes struggle to manage their finances due to their busy schedules and lack of experience in handling business affairs.

The news comes as a relief to Beasley’s fans, who had hoped for his return to the NBA after he was evicted from his high-rise apartment earlier this month. His lawyer is working to help him recover from $8 million worth of financial problems, including failing to pay rent and owing a judgment against him.
